2024 Ford F-150 First Look Review: Still The King

Ford hasn’t messed too much with the exterior of the F-150, knowing that the pickup’s brand identity is one of its selling points. So, while there have been tweaks to the headlights and grille, the squared-off look is still very much F-150 at first glance.

Lower trims come with an amber horizontal turn indicator and signature lighting with halogen quad beam headlamps, while Lariat to Platinum models have C-clamp DRL signature lighting. As always, the detailing on the front fascia changes from one model to the next, and the look also changes with packages. The STX trim, for instance, has a new coast-to-coast grille and also features Electric Lime accents. The Black Appearance Package is now available from the STX to Lariat trims, and the Platinum gets these blacked-out accents straight from the factory. On the King Ranch, there is a two-color metal exterior finish.

New wheel designs in various finishes will be available, starting with 17-inch steel wheels on the most basic versions. Various alloys then replace these, culminating with 22-inch items in black or chrome on the priciest trims.

More significant than the styling changes is what Ford has done to make the 2024 F-150 even more useful. Accessing the truck bed is now easier thanks to an increased bumper depth and a step cut-out that’s wider, but the available Pro Access Tailgate is the big news. With this equipped, the new Ford F-150 pickup truck is the only vehicle in its class with a 100-degree fully opened integrated swing gate. It opens from the driver’s side, which means the walking distance to the tailgate handle is shortened, and Ford says its operation is simpler when towing.
