The only two things that matter in the coming decade is legalizing weed and adopting Bitcoin.
I’m sure I don’t need to explain why, but let’s think through this.
Other than air, weed is the single most beneficial plant to mankind. It is anecdotally proven to do magical things: cure insomnia, cure anxiety, cure PTSD, cure over productivity, cure cancer and even increase the self-perceived wokeness of whoever partakes (unless you’re that one guy).
The potential medical benefits both psychological and physical that can be remedied with weed is outstanding.
Asking the natural question prompted, then why is it illegal? In unison everyone yells “BIG TOBACO.” “RONALD RAEGAN.” “THE CHURCH.” All valid answers but they ignore a deeper inquisition. Why for so many centuries did societies powers at be decide to criminalize weed?
The answer, unarguably, is that weed provided people with a sense of wholeness and security that was directed to something other than the State. Weed yoinked institutional control from the institutions, potentially lowering the Peoples willingness to produce for the State.
The perverse nature of this conclusion proves that at one time in history we lived in a world largely dominated by people who resemble none other than the boss from Office Space. They made decisions void of any scientific evidence or practical reasoning. Successful ruling meant maximizing control over the population, leaving weed a mystery too risky to explore.
Well too bad. We explored it anyway. And thoroughly .
Thanks to more modern governance a fraction of our cumulative productivity was allowed to be directed towards advancements. Things such as scientific research, improving transportation and getting lit. Thanks to that we proved that weed can indeed be pretty dope, with some of our most productive citizens admitting they’ve indulged.
Now that we all agree on everything I just said let’s move on to Bitcoin…
Bitcoin can do things for society that we have only ever dreamed of. Instant low cost transactions, overseas transactions, trick sketchy people into getting caught because they think the FBI doesn’t know how to use a computer (link). Most importantly Bitcoin can prevent the Fed from vacuuming money out of peoples pockets to temporarily patch economic crises — forcing structural change that optimistically will create a more responsible financial institution.
Like a sex tape leaked onto Reddit, Bitcoin can never be deleted or altered without the consensus of a vast majority of the participants. Since people already can’t agree on anything it’s safe to say the ever-present, distributed ledger will persist unaltered by selfish motivators or from another woopsy daisy by the Fed, SEC or Congress.
Does that mean we will never experience economic downturn again? Of course not. One might even argue that a Bitcoin future will make economic downturn more apparent because of the inability to obfuscate the situation with money printing.
An idea for another time.
