The Insta360 Flow 2 Pro is one of the most advanced smartphone gimbals on the market. We’ve had a chance to play with it for a few weeks, and these are five things we really love about the new gimbal.
1. Simplicity
There’s nothing better than an intuitive way to turn a product on and off. No double clicks and holds or looking for a switch on the bottom of a gimbal. All you need to do to turn on the Flow 2 Pro is unfold the arm, and the gimbal instantly turns on and calibrates itself.
Along with that, the simple controls on the front make for an intuitive way of controlling the gimbal. No matter if you’ve used gimbals for years or if this is your first one, the integrated dial with the control buttons is seamless and nearly impossible not to figure out.
2. MagSafe support
When Apple came out with the new MagSafe standard for iPhones a couple of years ago, the only products on the market were basically for charging the phone. However, the company’s goal was to hopefully have all kinds of products that used the integrated magnets on the back for mounting your phone.
Insta360‘s MagSafe plate for the Flow 2 Pro is the must-have accessory if you’re using an iPhone 12 or newer. The magnet is powerful and snaps on easily, with no concern that the phone will fall off during use while using the gimbal.
3. USB-C spotlight
A new feature of the Flow 2 Pro is the USB-C port at the top of the gimbal arm. This can be used for accessories like the new spotlight that helps keep the subject well-lit in potentially low-light or poorly lit situations. It simply plugs into the USB-C port and features clips to ensure it stays connected as you move around.
The spotlight has two buttons, one to change the color temperature to warm or cool, and another to turn the spotlight on and off and change the intensity of the light. It can even be used facing forward to illuminate what is in front of you, or backward for when you’re in selfie mode.
4. Built in phone charging
Using your phone all day as a camera can take a toll on your phone’s battery – especially if you record at higher quality and frame rates like the iPhone 16 Pro’s 4K/120 slow-motion video. The Flow 2 Pro has battery life rated for about 10 hours, so plugging your phone into the same USB-C port as the spotlight allows you to keep your phone charged during long filming sessions.
Given that this is placed at the top of the arm, you won’t have to worry about your cords getting tangled as the arm moves around, as long as you use a short enough cord.
5. DockKit
The best feature of the Flow 2 Pro, especially if you’re an iPhone user, is integration with DockKit. By simply holding your phone over the gimbal, you can enable Apple DockKit, which gives you support for nearly any camera app on the iOS App Store, including the native one.
So, if you don’t want to use Insta360’s app to record everything, you now have the option to use your preferred camera app of choice.
One bonus item we love about the Flow 2 Pro is just how compact it is when folded up. It’s so small that you can fit it into a hoodie’s pocket. No backpack or bulky case is required.
