If you have nothing planned for the weekend, you can fill that space with free entertainment. From January 3 to 5, Apple is giving you free access to its entire library of original shows and movies. Already, they offer a 7-day free trial, so this is something worth exploiting if you’ve exhausted that perk. All you need is your Apple ID to access the platform without a paid subscription and enjoy.
Also, the promotion is dependent on where Apple TV+ is already available. So you still need a device that supports the Apple TV+ app. You also need to be in a region where the streaming platform is supported. If you’re excited to start watching, here are five of the best shows to look out for.
Silo
Episodes/length | Season 1: 8 episodes Season 2: 10 episodes Average episode time: 50 minutes |
Genre | Dystopian, Sci-Fi |
Current status | Ongoing, renewed for Season 3 |
Silo is a series that caught my attention because of its unique story and dystopian setting. It takes its time to build up, but the wait is worth it. The story is set in a huge underground silo with 144 levels, where people live under strict rules and hidden secrets. Rebecca Ferguson plays an engineer who starts digging into its history and discovers a dangerous conspiracy. What she learns changes everything they’ve been told about the world above.
Severance
Episodes/length | Season 1: 9 episodes Average episode time: 49 minutes |
Genre | Sci-Fi, Psychological thriller |
Current status | Ongoing, renewed for Season 2 |
Another series I’m interested in is Severance. It’s a science fiction psychological thriller also set in a dystopian world. The plot surrounds employees at the fictional Lumon Industries, who have to undergo a procedure called severance.
Severance separates their work memories from their personal memories through a chip implant in their brains. The result is two distinct personalities: one who only exists at work (“Innie”) and one who only exists outside of work (“Outie”). As expected, tensions rise, and employees start to question everything, including the very nature of their existence.

Disclaimer*
Episodes/length | Season 1: 7 episodes Average episode time: 50 minutes |
Genre | Psychological thriller, Drama |
Current status | Ongoing, no announced plans for Season 2 |
I may be biased towards psychological thrillers and Dystopian content, but Disclaimer* is one miniseries you shouldn’t miss. It follows Catherine Ravenscroft, a famous documentary filmmaker. She finds out that a novel called “The Perfect Stranger” is based on her life and reveals a secret she has been hiding.
The book was written by Stephen Brigstocke, a man whose son, Jonathan, died years ago in Italy. Stephen believes Catherine is responsible for his son’s death and wrote the book as a form of revenge. Catherine now has to face the painful truth about her past.

Bad Sisters
Episodes/length | Season 1: 8 episodes Season 2: 8 episodes Average episode time: 51 minutes |
Genre | Dark humor, Thriller |
Current status | Ongoing, no announced plans for Season 3 |
If you liked Desperate Housewives, Good Girls, Dead To Me, and other series where women hide a body, make comically terrible decisions, and try to act normal, Bad Sisters is the perfect pick.
This dark comedy miniseries is about the Garvey sisters, who are bound by loyalty when one of their husbands dies under suspicious circumstances. The sisters are forced to confront the secrets they’ve been keeping and the lengths they’ll go to protect each other.
Fly Me To The Moon
Movie length | 2 hours, 11 minutes |
Genre | Comedy |
Release date | July 12, 2024 |
Fly Me to the Moon is a 2024 historical rom-com that takes place during the Apollo 11 mission. Kelly (Scarlett Johansson), a slick Manhattan Advertising Executive, is roped into saving NASA’s image by creating a fake moon landing in case the real one flops. She moves to Cocoa Beach, meets Mr. Serious Launch Director Cole (Channing Tatum), and they butt heads.
Unsurprisingly, they end up falling for each other. As the mission nears, there’s a web of deception that unravels, and a cat walks in at the end to make sure the relanding gets broadcasted. It sounds insane, but that’s part of why you need to watch the movie.

Taste the core of great entertainment
Regardless of what movie categories you’re into, Apple TV+ has something for everyone during this free and unlimited access window. If you’re wondering whether you can enjoy a full series from January 3 to 5, the answer is absolutely yes.
Silo and Severance, for example, each have around 8-10 episodes per season, running 40-60 minutes per episode. If you dedicate time, you could easily finish an entire season in those three days. Once the promotion is over, you may decide to continue the experience with the $9.99 monthly subscription, or find a different streaming service.
