5,000mAh Might Be “Small” In 2025; Vivo X200 Nears 6,000 mAh

One of the most important specifications for me when it comes to my choice of smartphones is the size of the battery. When I’m out of the house, I need a device that can save me from the trouble of needing to carry a power bank around with me, so long battery life is a major consideration.

From the birth of Android, smartphone batteries gradually got bigger and bigger, especially as the phones themselves did, but things have idled in recent years. However, it seems things might be back to a roaring start soon, as the Vivo X200’s battery capacity has been leaked and it is going to be massive for a modern flagship.

The Vivo X200 Looks Set To Tote A 5,800 mAh Battery, According To A Rumor

The Vivo X200 is very close to launch. The series is expected to be unveiled on October 14th, which is in less than a week, and there’s a lot to be excited about. For instance, we’ve heard word of the X200 Pro’s 200MP telephoto camera and we also know that Vivo will be bringing a Mini device to the stage—potentially a return for those who love compact flagships.

Now, another thing to be excited about is the battery capacities for these upcoming smartphones. According to a leaker on Weibo, the regular Vivo X200 is expected to come with a battery capacity of 5,800 mAh, which by any standard, is considered huge. Plus, we can expect 90W wired charging.

The Vivo X200 has a 6.6-inch display, so if the Pro model is going to have a larger footprint than that, it could mean an even larger battery capacity. That’s exciting to think about.

Other Chinese Manufacturers Seem Set For Flagships With 5,000+ mAh Batteries Before The Year Ends

The thing is, this isn’t even isolated. The Oppo Find X8 is also expected to reveal itself this month and with a 6.5-inch display-diagonal, the same leaker claims it will come with a 5,700 mAh cell. The Xiaomi 15 should also bring in a 5,400 mAh battery, and it is much smaller than the others, at about 6.3 inches.

That’s pretty impressive and I’m going to tell you why. In the case of the Xiaomi 15, it stays about the same size but the battery capacity increases by about 800 mAh. However, the Oppo Find X8 and the Vivo X200 both get smaller than their predecessors, yet each manages to add 700 and 800 mAh respectively.

Plus, it has been rumored for quite some time to expect a 6,000 mAh battery from OnePlus in the OnePlus 13, also launching this month.

Silicon Batteries Are Ushering In A New Frontier; 5,000 mAh Could Be Considered Small Next Year

There’s a reason why all of these Chinese manufacturers are suddenly maximizing their battery capacities, and it all comes down to the magic of silicon-based batteries. I don’t know the technical side of things, but these batteries can be built denser—that means more capacity in the same volume.

If smartphone makers like Samsung and Google manage to hop onto this train on time, we could very easily see a 5,000 mAh battery be considered small for flagship smartphones in the next year or two. I’m looking forward to that future.
