Your LG TV Is Now an Xbox

LG and Xbox have joined forces to bring Xbox games straight to your living room, without the Xbox. Some LG TVs can now stream games from Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Unfortunately, you do need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription to use this feature. Even still, this update means that anyone with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription can play hundreds of high-quality games through a special Xbox app without needing a separate gaming console.

The new Xbox app is now available on many LG Smart TVs and some smart monitors, making cloud gaming much more widely available. The app works with 2022 OLED TVs, certain 2023 LG Smart TVs (including OLED, QNED, NanoCell, and UHD models), and newer TVs running webOS 24 or later.

If you have a 2025 LG TV, you can easily find the app through the new LG Gaming Portal, which is accessible directly from the Gaming Q-Card on the home screen. For owners of LG TVs with webOS 24 or newer (including some 2022 and 2023 models that have installed the required firmware update version 23.20.01 or higher), the app can be downloaded directly from the LG app store. The service will also be available on StanbyME screens in the near future.

Setting everything up is simple. After downloading the app, users just need to sign in or create a Microsoft account and pair a compatible Bluetooth wireless controller. Many different controllers are supported, such as the Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, and even PlayStation’s DualSense and DualShock 4 controllers.

You Can Still Get a Free Month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, But There’s a Catch

Microsoft recently removed its $1 Game Pass offer, but you can still get Game Pass through an even better deal.

However, if you want to avoid the research but want a reliable controller, you can buy The 8Bitdo Ultimate 2.4G Wireless Controller for $49.99 on Amazon. This wide range of compatibility makes it easy for gamers to use their preferred controller.

Once connected, you can explore the huge library of games through your Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. You can jump into action-packed shooters like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, dive into role-playing adventures like Avowed and South of Midnight, or try newer game releases like Oblivion Remastered. Beyond new releases, you can also stream some of the games you already own, like NBA 2K25.

This partnership between LG and Xbox makes Xbox Cloud Gaming available to many more people. Right now, the service is live in countries including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The LG Gaming Portal is available in a few fewer countries at the moment, but it will expand to more regions and older webOS versions in the future. I know I’m not the only Game Pass subscriber who has been waiting for more TV services to add Xbox Game Pass to them. Microsoft has been pushing their service to multiple screens for a while. By adding the Xbox app directly to their Smart TVs, LG is making playing games without a console easier than ever.

This is also great because LG’s TVs come with OLED and QNED, which means sharp 4K visuals. However, keep in mind that lag and any visual glitches would likely be a result of your internet connection. If you choose to play higher-quality games, you’ll likely need a really good connection to keep interference away.

For those who don’t have an LG TV, you can still buy an Amazon 4k Fire Stick for $49.99 on Amazon. That Fire Stick comes with the Game Pass app available for download on compatable TVs.
