Summary
- Spotify introduced AI-generated playlists globally, based on user prompts for specific moods or activities.
- Premium subscribers in 40+ markets can access AI-generated playlists to customize songs based on unique prompts.
- Use various prompts like genres, emojis, colors, or activities to create AI-generated playlists tailored to your preferences.
Playlists are a big part of the Spotify experience and appeal, which is why the company spends so much time beefing up playlist features. Last year, Spotify introduced the ability to use AI to help generate playlists based on prompts. Now, it’s being expanded to more markets.
The concept behind the feature is pretty simple, and it’s one of those uses of AI that actually makes sense. Imagine you have an idea for a playlist for a specific mood, activity, or vibe. You could spend a bunch of time combing through songs and similar playlists, or simply tell Spotify your idea.

I Tried Spotify’s Cover Art Tool and My Playlists Have Never Looked So…Interesting
I’m a big proponent of making your own Spotify playlists, and custom cover art can take them to the next level. However, not everyone wants to fire up Photoshop for a simple playlist cover. Spotify has a new tool that makes this much easier…and weirder. Let’s take it for a spin.
For example, you might say, “chill nighttime music to listen to in a hot tub.” Spotify will spit out a playlist with suggested songs and ask you to refine the playlist with more prompts. Songs in the playlist can be easily added or removed as you tweak. Once it looks ready to go, simply tap “Create,” and it’s in your library. Like any playlist, AI-generated ones can be shared with friends and further edited whenever you want.
Spotify offers a few pro tips to help you get started. Prompts based on genre, mood, or specific artists tend to yield the best results. However, don’t be afraid to get weird. Animals, activities, movie characters, colors, and even emojis can be used as prompts.
To spark your imagination, Spotify suggests trying out prompts like “Afrobeat tracks to heat up the dance floor,” “Trending K-Pop hits I need to know,” “2000s reggaeton for soaking up the sun,” “Songs to hype me up for the football match,” or “Upbeat Latin songs from my top genre.” You get the idea.
The AI-generated playlists feature is for Premium subscribers only, unfortunately. The feature was launched in the UK and Australia last August, then made its way to the US, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand in September. Now, it’s available in 40 new markets, including countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Caribbean.
As of April 2025, it’s available in:
Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Burundi, Canada, Curaçao, Dominica, Eswatini, Fiji, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Malta, Marshall Islands, Namibia, Nauru, New Zealand Nigeria, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Africa, Solomon Islands, Tanzania, Tonga, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States, Vanuatu, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
To get started, go to “Your Library” and tap the “+” button at the top-right corner, then select “AI Playlist.” Or, go to the “Search” tab on Spotify and search for “AI Playlist.” The feature is only available on mobile.

I Tried Apple Music, But One Feature Brought Me Back to Spotify
I recently made the big switch from Spotify to Apple Music, hoping for a less frustrating experience. Despite liking quite a bit about Apple Music, I found myself returning to Spotify after only two months. There was one feature I just couldn’t live without.
