What Nintendo Switch 2 Accessories to Look Out For

While the Nintendo Switch 2 can be used as is, what you see is what you get. And what you get are a pair of Joy Con 2, a dock, cables (for charging and HDMI), the console, and 256GB of internal storage. That leaves a lot to be desired, especially if you plan on switching back and forth between TV and handheld mode often.

Starting with the internal storage of the Nintendo Switch 2, having 256GB would be horrendous if it were a laptop, but Nintendo is pretty good with compression, and it’s a massive upgrade from the original Switch’s wimpy 32GB (or the OLED’s 64GB). However, having more storage is warranted—at least enough to match the Switch 2’s internal storage. Unlike the original Switch, the Switch 2 only accepts microSD Express cards for storing games.

Since the Nintendo Switch 2 is a handheld, obviously it would be nice to bring it with you wherever you go. Having a case is going to be essential, even if you 100% trust yourself to never drop it. Cases come in several forms, like a tough hardshell case if you want something low-profile or already have a large bag to store the console, or you can opt for an entire carrying case that has cushioning and protection for the Switch 2 and its accessories.

The Joy Cons aren’t for everyone, nor are they ideal for longer play sessions. The Joy Con Grip makes it much easier, but if you need something much more traditional, like that of an Xbox or PlayStation controller, then you’ll want something like the official Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller. It has all of the functionalities of the Joy Con 2 (minus being a mouse) and also has a couple extra remappable buttons.

Lastly, the Nintendo Switch 2 has a built-in microphone, but you can 1) enhance your gaming experience and 2) communicate better with a dedicated headset. Wireless is much more convenient, but be sure to choose one that has a dongle that can connect with the Nintendo Switch 2. The Razer Barracuda X, which we have on our list, is one such example!
