Slow Horses, Bad Sisters, and The Velveteen Rabbit win BAFTAs

Slow Horses was one of three Apple TV+ shows to win multiple BAFTAs at a ceremony in London last night, hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

BAFTAs recognize the best in British television and film, and Apple has notched up a number of awards over the years …

Slow Horses

Apple describes Slow Horses as a darkly funny drama.

This darkly funny espionage drama follows a team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 due to their career-ending mistakes. Led by their brilliant but irascible leader, the notorious Jackson Lamb (Academy Award winner Gary Oldman), they navigate the espionage world’s smoke and mirrors to defend England from sinister forces.

The show this year won two BAFTAs:

  • Best Sound: Fiction
  • Best Editing: Fiction

Bad Sisters

Season two kicked off late last year, with the drama rekindled by new developments.

“Bad Sisters” season two returns to follow the lives of the Garvey sisters played by Sharon Horgan as Eva, Anne-Marie Duff as Grace, Eva Birthistle as Ursula, Sarah Greene as Bibi and Eve Hewson as Becka. Two years after the “accidental death” of Grace’s abusive husband, the close-knit Garvey sisters may have moved on, but when past truths resurface, the ladies are thrust back into the spotlight, suspicions are at an all-time high, lies are told, secrets revealed and the sisters are forced to work out who they can trust.

The show won a BAFTA for Best Original Music: Fiction.

The Velveteen Rabbit

A children’s show based on a classic book.

Based on the treasured, classic children’s book by Margery Williams, “The Velveteen Rabbit” celebrates the magic of unconditional love. When 7-year-old William receives a new favorite toy for Christmas, he discovers a lifelong friend and unlocks a world of magic.

This won a brand new category, the Children’s Craft Team award.

May be more awards to come

Last night’s awards were for the craft elements, with actors set to be recognized in a second ceremony next month. Slow Horses, one of only three shows to pick up two BAFTAs, may be in line for more – with actors Gary Oldman, Jonathan Pryce, and Christopher Chung all nominated for next month’s line-up.
