JIT enabler lands on App Store, likely unlocking Wii and Switch emulation on iOS

Despite Apple reversing its stance on console emulators in the App Store a year ago, GameCube and Wii emulators have largely remained absent from the iPhone and iPad — until now, perhaps.

The team behind DolphiniOS previously explained that Apple’s restrictions on apps using just-in-time (JIT) compilation made it virtually impossible to run GameCube and Wii titles on iOS.

Fast forward a year, and an app called StikDebug launched on the AltStore in Europe, where Apple is required to permit third-party app marketplaces. StikDebug enables on-device JIT for any app, making it possible to run DolphiniOS without sideloading or tethering to a PC or Mac — at least for users in the EU.

Now, it appears StikDebug has also been approved in the U.S. App Store. While we haven’t tested the setup beyond confirming the app is available to download, if it functions as expected, it could enable GameCube and Wii emulation via DolphiniOS — and even Nintendo Switch emulation through meloNX.

In any case, those interested in console emulation on iOS may want to grab StikDebug while it’s live on the App Store — just in case its approval turns out to be a mistake.
