Assassin’s Creed Shadows was released over a month ago, and while many have had their chance to play through the story, that isn’t the end. Ubisoft has now revealed their plans for the future of the game with a post-launch roadmap focused on content coming over the next year. From free content and small changes to a big paid expansion, here are the things you should look forward to over the next year in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
What Content is Coming to Assassin’s Creed Shadows?
On the Assassin’s Creed Shadows blog outlining the roadmap, Ubisoft says that you can expect the usual stability updates, but there will be plenty of free content coming along with those.
Included in that content will be new difficulty settings, a new game plus mode, quests focused on characters that players like the most, photo mode and parkour upgrades, and “special collaborations.” Unfortunately, there was no hint as to what other properties Shadows will be collaborating with.
If you feel you have a little too much money in your bank account, there will also be new store content, and the Claws of Awaji expansion, which is free for anyone who pre-ordered the base game. In the expansion, both Naoe and Yasuke travel to a new island with new abilities, enemies, and a new bo staff weapon for Naoe.
Ubisoft is not revealing what the store content you can expect yet, but it will likely include new weapons and armor. Some of that could be included in the collaboration criteria.

Not all the content talked about here has an expected release date. That being said, the first new quest will be added starting at the beginning of May. It is called The Works of Luis Frois, and focuses on a scholar dedicated to literature. There will also be codex and small quality of life improvements in this first update.
At the end of May, another free update will drop that includes the first collaboration. Given that that is happening soon, we expect news about that content to be announced rather soon. That’s not the only thing to look forward to, though, as the parkour system will be getting new height-gaining moves for back and side ejects, plus a way to vertically jump up to ledges like awnings that do not have a wall to run up to reach them. Photo mode will also get new poses, filters, and ambient music during this time.

- Codex update
- Quality of life improvements
- Parkour updates (back and side ejects to gain higher elevation, vertical ledge jumps)

Sometime in June, Shadows will get its second story drop, which will also bring a new ally to join your league. As part of community-requested features, there will be new settings to allow for more immersion that allow you to remove the outline on your character when you are hiding and the glint on weapons in combat.
The alarm system in castles will be brought into the open world to add a little more challenge at this time, but the true difference will be made with new hardcore difficulties for stealth and combat.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Content Updates in June 2025
- New free quest that introduces a new ally
- Hardcore difficulty settings
- New gameplay immersion settings
- Alarm system moved to the open world
- Remove headgear in cutscenes option
The rest of the content throughout this year does not have a release window yet. The new game plus will bring a higher cap for levels, but outside of the Claws of Awaji expansion, it looks like we are stuck waiting to see what other specific content is being added to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Hopefully, the expansion will get a deep dive sometime during the summer to truly show everything you can get excited about with a new region to play in.
