Last year, YouTuber and Apple enthusiast Nikias Molina released an app called Kernel. This app was created primarily to help people discover which streaming service hosts certain TV shows and movies. I use this app a ton as someone with six different streaming providers. If I ever needed to find out where a movie was, I would search it, and it was correct 100% of the time! I love how simple and elegant it was to use. Its newest update now adds Kernel AI, recommendations, and more.
We live in an era where every company, brand, and app is throwing the word AI down our throats. In my experience, these brands are just adding AI into their apps and services with no real direction or reason other than to say that they have added AI. What I like about this implementation is that it serves one purpose and does it extremely well! They are not trying to reinvent the wheel here, help you find the name of a movie or TV show that’s on the tip of your tongue but can’t quite remember the name.
Here is how it works:
- Head to the search tab
- Make sure AI is toggled on
- Describe the movie or TV show
- Movie name will show up
- Then tap into it to get info, where to stream, and even go directly to the streaming service app.
I have been playing with this feature for a week now, and it works just as it was intended, which is amazing!
One of my favorite aspects of this new update is the one-click streaming feature. So once you find your movie, you can tap into it, and as long as you have the streaming service app on your phone and you are logged in, it will take you directly to the movie and start playing, reducing the number of steps needed to watch something down to just one step.

The new Kernel update is available today! Either download it from the App Store or simply update your current app. Since this does rely on AI APIs and pulling data in there is a subscription service for Kernel AI. The plans are:
