LANSING — A new organization is pushing to make Michigan a leader in cryptocurrency.

The Michigan Bitcoin Trade Council officially launched this week, promising to boost Bitcoin education and adoption statewide. The group’s launch event, called Bitcoin and BBQ, is scheduled for Wednesday in Lansing.

Organizers say they’ll promote Bitcoin use among Michigan businesses, educate lawmakers, and advocate for ‘Bitcoin-friendly’ policies.

While supporters claim Bitcoin offers economic opportunity, critics warn that cryptocurrency markets remain volatile and largely unregulated — raising questions about consumer protection, security, and the long-term impact on local economies.

The event will be held at 1240 East Saginaw Street in Lansing. Admission is free, and more details are available at mibtc.org.
