There are few individuals better positioned to make a major impact on personal computing’s future than Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO. And some of his recent comments appear very much aligned with what a top Apple exec shared earlier today about AI’s influence on our computing habits.
Voice computing poised for tremendous growth in AI future, says Zuckerberg
Earlier today, Apple SVP Eddy Cue quite remarkably admitted that, due to AI, the iPhone might not be needed in a decade.
Though Cue didn’t go into greater detail, my assumption is that he sees how AI could make voice computing and/or wearable computing far more prevalent than it is today.
Which aligns a lot with what Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said last week at the first LlamaCon developer conference.
Per Kwindla Kramer, who shared his LlamaCon notes in an article on X:
Zuck said, “I do think voice is under-indexed today. Today 95% of interaction is text [typing] but … I think voice will be a lot bigger going forward.”
The intelligence and capabilities of AI chatbots like ChatGPT (and hopefully Siri before long) can make text input feel especially slow and burdensome.
When you can just speak, and have AI understand you and do what you need, that’s a much better experience for users.
Zuckerberg and Apple seem to constantly be at odds. But perhaps, despite their feuds, they have at least some agreement on what the future of computing may look like.
Do you think AI will make voice a much bigger part of computing in the future? Why or why not? Let us know in the comments.
