Right now, you can buy two years of Proton VPN’s premium plan for $81.36 on the official website. This comes out to $3.39 per month, and if you don’t want to commit for that long, the 1-year plan is also on sale.
The Proton VPN Plus gives you access to more than 8,000 servers in over 110 countries, delivers fast speeds, and lets you connect up to 10 devices. What’s cool is that this fully supports BitTorrent with open ports and multiple peer-to-peer services, and includes split tunneling on the official client applications.
ProtonVPN also works with many well-known streaming services, as long as you choose a server optimized for streaming. The company states that it does not gather or keep records of your internet traffic.
We gave the service an 8/10 in our ProtonVPN review, thanks to its high speeds, multi-platform apps and extensions, and reliability. The interface in the official apps wasn’t great, but Proton has rolled out several updates since then to fix the pain points.
That said, this discount can be a little confusing, and even I’ve been fooled by how these kinds of plans are worded. With the two-year plan, you pay a total of $81.36 upfront to cover the first two years, and then you will be charged the regular price per year after that (normally $79.95). The one-year plan is 60% off and costs $47.88 upfront, then will renew automatically at $79.95 each year after that. While this is still a good value, the one and two-year plans usually stay around 50% off the regular monthly price.
It is worth noting that a VPN does not fix every internet privacy concern. Websites, apps, and malware have many ways to track your online behavior beyond just your IP address, and modern HTTPS and SSL encryption already protect your data when using public Wi-Fi.
