Apple TV+ is home to a growing number of critically acclaimed series, and two of its currently airing shows happen to be among the best new TV comedies in streaming.
#1: The Studio
The Studio is the kind of comedy that can be hard to watch for some people.
Why? Because its characters will make you cringe uncomfortably at their hilarious antics.
Seth Rogen stars alongside Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and a team of other comedy powerhouses. Not to mention major Hollywood celebrities who show up every episode—including Netflix’s CEO.
Here’s Apple’s official summary:
Seth Rogen stars as Matt Remick, the newly appointed head of embattled Continental Studios. As movies struggle to stay alive and relevant, Matt and his core team of infighting executives battle their insecurities as they wrangle narcissistic artists and craven corporate overlords in the ever-elusive pursuit of making great films. With their power suits masking their never-ending sense of panic, every party, set visit, casting decision, marketing meeting and award show presents them with an opportunity for glittering success or career-ending catastrophe. As someone who eats, sleeps and breathes movies, it’s the job Matt’s been pursuing his whole life, and it may very well destroy him.
The Studio has nine episodes currently available on Apple TV+, and its season finale will air next Wednesday, May 21.
If you haven’t checked it out yet, you’re in for a treat.
#2: Murderbot
Murderbot may not sound like the title of a comedy, but this new sci-fi show knows how to entertain.
Alexander Skarsgård plays an extremely relatable android who has a full-time job in security, but would rather just stream TV shows all day and night.
The titular Murderbot character is the source of the show’s humor thanks to his constant inner monologue that reveals his true feelings toward the humans he serves.
Here’s Apple’s series summary:
Based on Martha Wells’ bestselling Hugo and Nebula Award-winning book series, “Murderbot” is a sci-fi thriller/comedy about a self-hacking security construct who is horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable clients. Murderbot must hide its free will and complete a dangerous assignment when all it really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe.
Murderbot just premiered today on Apple TV+ with its first two episodes, and weekly releases will drop on Fridays through July 11.
Critic reviews have given Murderbot an impressive 98% Rotten Tomatoes score, and after watching the beginning of the season, I can’t wait to see more.
Apple TV+ is available for $9.99 per month and features hit TV shows and movies like Ted Lasso, Severance, The Morning Show, Silo, and Shrinking.
