Having posted a timeline on which handsets were eligible to be upgraded to Android 11, Sony has decided to begin the rollout to the Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 ahead of schedule. The new firmware is said to include the December security patch and be available in a number of regions including Russia and South East Asia.

The Android 11 update was originally scheduled to roll out during February but I’m sure Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 users aren’t too unhappy about the early release. It seems that the new Photography Pro app isn’t included in the update, and the camera app is the same UI as it was before.

The update brings the software on both devices up to 55.2.A.0.630 and comes in at around the 911MB mark, so if you are on a data-capped plan, make sure you are connected to WiFi before downloading the OTA and installing.

If the update is showing on your Xperia 1 or Xperia 5, let us know in the comments below if you find any bugs or glitches.

He currently carries an OPPO Find X2 Pro in his pockets, a Galaxy Tab S5e in his backpack, and thinks nothing of lugging a 17-inch laptop around the world. When not immersed in the world of Android and gadgets, he’s an avid sports fan, and like all South Africans, he loves a good Braai (BBQ).
