The Galaxy A51 was a surprise hit for Samsung in the mid-range segment and while we didn’t find it to be perfect, it obviously ticked the right boxes for consumers across the globe. Fast-forward to today and Samsung has just announced its successor, the Galaxy A52, as well as the follow-up to the A71, the Galaxy A72. The Galaxy A52 comes in both 4G and 5G variants while the A72 is only available with 4G at the current time, although it’s thought that it may launch in the US with 5G support.

All three of the new Galaxy A handsets sport a quartet of rear cameras consisting of a 64MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, a 5MP macro lens, and in the case of the Galaxy A52 variants, a 5MP depth sensor. The fourth rear camera on the A72 is a more useful 8MP telephoto lens with a 3x zoom. A 32MP selfie camera is present in a centrally located punch-hole at the top of the display on the new phones.

The differences between the three models aren’t quite as clear cut from now on, as you can see with the Galaxy A52 that sports a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate while the 5G variant also has a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution but with 120Hz refresh rate. The Galaxy A72 has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution but with a 90Hz refresh rate.

Both the Galaxy A52 and A72 are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 720G chipset while the Galaxy A52 5G sports the Snapdragon 750G under the hood. The new phones are available with six or eight gigs of RAM although the Galaxy A52 4G can also be had with just 4GB. There are storage options of 128GB and 256GB along with support for MicroSD cards.

The Galaxy A52 handsets feature a 4,500mAh battery while the A72’s unit is slightly bigger with a 5,000mAh capacity. 25W Fast-charging is supported across the new models however buyers will find a 15W wall charger included in the box. The new phones have been upgraded with IP67 dust and water-resistance, and launch running Android 11 and One UI 3.1 out of the box, which should mean that the option to switch from Samsung Free to Google Discover is present. It’s important to remember that Samsung has committed to rolling out at least three OS version bumps as well as at least four years’ worth of security updates.

The Galaxy A52 5G and A72 are available in ‘Awesome’ violet, blue, black, and white colors, and are already on sale from £399 and £419 in the UK, we’ll update the article with the US pricing once it becomes available.
