Maya Rudolph Cast In New Apple Comedy Show

Maya Rudolph will lead and executive produce a new Apple comedy series, marking her first live-action TV lead since Prime’s Forever in 2018.

Maya Rudolph is set to lead a new comedy series for Apple. The Saturday Night Live alum has recently been racking up voiceover credits in the TV world, with stints on Netflix’s Big Mouth and FOX’s Bless the Harts. Her last live-action television role was The Judge on NBC’s The Good Place, a recurring guest spot that gleamed her an Emmy nomination.

Variety reports Rudolph’s next project is a half-hour comedy series for Apple. Created by Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard, who Rudolph worked with on Amazon Prime’s Forever, the production hasn’t released a title yet but did reveal its premise. The show follows Molly (Rudolph), who seems to be living a dream life until her husband leaves her with nothing but 87 billion dollars.

In addition to starring, Rudolph will join Yang and Hubbard as an executive producer under her Animal Picture production company banner. There’s even more Animal Pictures power in the EP zone, with Russian Doll‘s Natasha Lyonne and veteran producer Danielle Renfrew Behrens joining their collaborator. Lyonne founded the company with Rudolph, while Renfrew Behrens was announced as the President in 2019.

The exciting Apple announcement comes merely days after it was revealed Animal Pictures would executive produce a mystery series for Peacock. In addition to producing, Lyonne will star in the show, which is called Poker Face. Peacock order ten episodes of the series by writer-director Rian Johnson. Both Renfrew Behrens and Rudolph also tout executive producer titles on the project.
