Twitter Blue is rolling out in Australia and Canada with no reason to subscribe

    Twitter Blue

We all know that $3 doesn’t stretch as far as it used to but the Twitter Blue subscription plan that is currently rolling out in Canada and Australia is a way to give you almost nothing. Twitter has ignored the vast number of users clamoring for an ‘Edit’ button and has instead launched Twitter Blue with what amounts to a delayed delete option, a reader mode, and a way to save tweets to a folder. All for the very unreasonable price of $3.49 CAD or $4.49 AUD, monthly.

I mean, it’s bad enough that there are so many adverts in the Twitter timeline but to charge roughly $3 a month to be given 30-seconds to decide if the tweet is good enough to send (which is no use if you don’t see the error in your post in that time period) or to bookmark tweets to folders. And let’s not forget ‘Reader Mode’ that is there to assist you when reading long threads of tweets by converting them into easy-to-read text, basically performing the unroll bot’s duty. For just $3 a month, or $36 annually.

But wait, there’s more. You’ll also be able to customize your app icons, gain access to ‘fun’ color schemes and a dedicated support department, all for just $3 a month. Did we mention that Twitter Blue will cost $3 a month?

I know I keep banging on about the $3 monthly fee for Twitter Blue, but it feels like a cheap shot from Twitter to bolster its profit margins. The so-called benefits of Twitter Blue are hardly going to change your experience of the Twitter timeline, you’ll still see ads and ‘Promoted’ tweets from junk brands, and you’ll still not be able to edit that typo. Using the unroll thread bot is free to use for all Twitter users, so that’s another value-added service from Twitter that is worthless.

Would you sign up to Twitter Blue if/when it launches in your region?
