With many of us expecting the Wear OS platform to get a sizable update during Google I/O, the announcement that Google and Samsung would merge their respective smartwatch operating systems into a unified OS caught everyone by surprise. Besides the usual promises of better battery life and new features, little is known about this ‘Wear’ platform but that could soon change later this month because it’s thought that Samsung will show off its upcoming Galaxy Watch 4 during MWC 2021 via a virtual event.
As one of the first big-hitters to announce it would only attend MWC 2021 virtually, Samsung is holding an online-only event on Monday, June 28th where it’s believed to be giving us a glimpse of what the Galaxy Watch 4 and the new Wear smartwatch OS have to offer.
While Galaxy Watch 4 details are scarce, we can expect to see Samsung slap its One UI design language on it so that it matches the rest of the Galaxy ecosystem. It’s likely that we won’t learn the intricate details of the new smartwatch nor its new OS during the virtual event but it should at least be enough to whet the appetite. With Samsung scheduled to hold an Unpacked event during August, it’s quite possible that we might see the Galaxy Watch 4 being unveiled alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 2.
