Whether you’ve been browsing the internet on your smartphone for a surprise gift or perhaps something else that you’d rather remain private, it’s a good idea to clear the browsing history on the web browser that you used. Besides maintaining your privacy, clearing the history on your device is a quick and useful maintenance process to perform regularly on your mobile device. Clearing the browser history improves performance and reduces sluggishness in your device.
Join us after the break where we show you how to clear your browsing history on popular mobile web browsers such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, the Google Search app, as well as Samsung’s Internet Browser.
Chrome
When clearing the history on the chrome browser go to the 3 vertical dots at the top right of the screen. Tap these and a variety of options will appear.
Tap on History.
This will open the options for the browsing history. You can choose to delete an hour, a day a week etc or all time. For this demo I chose to delete for all time.
Tap on your choice and the browsing history for this time period will be cleared.
Google Search App
Tap on the 3 horizontal dots at the bottom right of your screen on the browser window. Tap on Search History.
A number of options come up which you can use to refine your search activity. You can choose to save your search history. Set up an auto delete with a chosen timeframe- useful if you forget to clear your browsing history.
You can filter your activity by date and product and choose what time frame you wish to delete by the hour, day, or always. You can also set a custom range eg if you want to set this up to clear your activity on a 5-day interval.
Lastly there is the manual option. Your search history shows beneath all these options in date order starting with today and then all the dates below this. There is a handy dustbin option next to each date. Tap this and it clears the history for each selection.
Microsoft Edge
Despite being based on the same Chromium platform as Google Chrome, the Microsoft Edge browser has a different menu system. You’ll need to tap on the hamburger menu at the bottom center and then select Settings.
Scroll down and select Privacy and Security
Scroll down and tap on Clear Browsing Data
Here you will see toggles for the types of data you can include in your deletion task. Make your choice and tap on Clear.
You’ll also see a toggle that says Clear Browsing Data Upon Exit which means that every time you quit Microsoft Edge the browsing data will automatically be deleted. Bear in mind that you’ll need to tap the hamburger menu at the bottom center, scroll down and select Exit Browser for the browsing data to be automatically deleted when you’ve finished browsing.
Samsung Internet Browser
Tap on the 3 horizontal lines or the hamburger at the bottom right of the browser window.
Tap on the History option.
Now tap on the 3 vertical dots at the top right of the screen.
This gives you the option to Clear your browsing history. Tap and voila the history is clear.
Mozilla Firefox
Tap on the 3 horizontal lines or the hamburger at the bottom right of the browser window and tap on Settings.
Select Delete Browsing Data
You can now choose which sections you would like to delete before tapping on the Delete Browsing Data option at the bottom, after which the Firefox browser will be as clean as the day you installed it.
