Microsoft has announced a limited-edition variant of its Xbox Series X console and Xbox Elite Controller Series 2, tied to the upcoming release of Halo Infinite. The hardware duo debuted at Opening Night Live on Wednesday, with a December 8, 2021 launch date, alongside Halo Infinite.
The new Halo Infinite-themed Xbox Series X takes cues from the sci-fi shooter, including an interstellar finish inspired by its high-tech Forerunner architecture. The console and accompanying controller both boast metallic black-on-grey panels, with gold accents and a star-speckled detailing.
The Xbox Elite Controller also mirrors the Master Chief, translating his metallic green armor to the premium accessory. The controller also retains signatures of the Xbox Elite Controller, including adjustable thumbsticks, rear paddles, and hair-trigger locks, all beneficial in competitive shooters. While compatible with Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles, it also works on PC and mobile via Bluetooth, with an external carry case and charging cradle.
The custom Xbox Series X and Xbox Elite Controller accompany Halo Infinite preorders ahead of the December 8 release, amid ongoing chip shortages hampering console availability. Halo Infinite is only the second Microsoft franchise blessed with a custom Xbox Elite Controller, following up on the previous Gears of War 4 variant in 2016.
