PLYMOUTH, Vt. (AP) — The President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site is celebrating apples this weekend with the Plymouth Notch Antique Apple Fest on Saturday.
Attendees of the the sixth annual celebration can can visit the site’s heirloom apple orchard and sample vintage apple varieties, organizers said.
A 5-kilometer road race was scheduled for 10 a.m., with prizes available for top finishers and age-group winners. There will also be an “I Do Not Choose to Run” 1-mile walk at 11 a.m. honoring Coolidge’s short statement that he would not seek re-election for president in 1928, according to the site.
Activities throughout the day include cider pressing, wagon rides, sheep shearing, cheese sampling and self-guided tours at the Plymouth Cheese Factory.
The Stringfield Springers will perform old-time tunes, and the Vermont Historical Society is organizing period children’s games.

Rob Mermin, founder of the youth circus company Circus Smirkus, will give a lecture called “Silents Are Golden: A Celebration of Silent Cinema” at 1:30 p.m., featuring clips from 100 silent films from the 1920s.
