Some of the best Black Friday laptop deals are currently underway, and as you might have noticed there are a ton of high-end laptops that still have a fairly high price after a discount. While that’s perfectly fine for those who are searching out something for work or for gaming, anyone who just needs a basic PC to have around the house for homework or general productivity work will want to have a look at Chuwi’s HeroBook pro 14.1. It’s down to $279 at Amazon for Black Friday, which is a $100 discount.
The HeroBook Pro is an evolution of the standard Chuwi HeroBook 14.1 I reviewed a couple of years ago. The Pro version has been updated with a 256GB M.2 solid-state drive for much better performance compared to eMMC storage, and there’s a microSD card reader if you’d like to add some extra removable storage.
For performance hardware, the CPU is a dual-core Intel Celeron N4020 and it’s paired up with 8GB of RAM. It’s not going to keep up with Intel Core laptops, but it will handle email, word processing, and web browsing. The 14.1-inch display has a 1080p resolution and anti-glare finish, and the IPS panel means color is decent. The keyboard and touchpad are both solid at this price, and ports include USB-A 3.0, USB-A 2.0, 3.5mm audio, and Mini HDMI.
If you’ve been searching for a cheap laptop for light work, it’s hard to beat this price. The laptop comes standard with Windows 10, though it looks like it should be able to handle an upgrade to Windows 11 if needed.
