Golden Apple Foundation names Golden Apple Award finalists


    ROCKFORD — The Golden Apple Foundation recently named 20 teachers from Winnebago and Boone counties selected to move forward in the selection process for the 2022 Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching award.

    These teachers include:

    Mark J. Peterson of Auburn High Middle School

    Lovina Youngman of Belvidere Central Middle School

    Michael Chiodini, Nicole Kroepel and Wendy Taylor of Belvidere North High School

    Rebecca Perry of Belvidere South Middle School

    Adam Pusateri of Durand High School

    Lorrie Hill of Eisenhower Middle School

    Dreanna Ballard and Weston Brabeck of Guilford High School

    Ashley VanSickle of Harlem Middle School

    Brooke Harp of Holy Family School

    Anita Bond, Jean Chambers and Heather Plourde of Hononegah High School

    Monica Benolkin of Rockford Lutheran Academy

    Matthew Green of the Roosevelt Community Education Center

    Chelsea Spinello-Johnson of Thurgood Marshall Middle School

    Hayley Gotzsche and Kelli Houghton of Willowbrook Middle School.

    These teachers will be observed in their classrooms by trained community volunteers on four separate occasions from Jan. 18 through Feb. 16, 2021.

    The next step in the selection process after observations is an interview.

    The process culminates with the selection of five teachers who will receive the prestigious Golden Apple Award in surprise classroom presentations also featured by WTVO-17 and the Rockford Register Star.
