It was only back in August that T-Mobile last experienced a cyber attack that affected the data of millions and now the Uncarrier has announced that it’s suffered yet another data breach. This time it seems that a relatively small number of T-Mobile customer accounts were accessed without authorization by an unknown individual.
According to leaked documents obtained by The T-Mo Report, the affected customers were either the victim of an unauthorized SIM swap and/or had their personal data such as names, addresses, phone numbers, plan details, and the number of lines on the account scrutinized by the perpetrator of the breach. Thankfully, it was confirmed that those whose SIM was swapped without their permission were able to regain access to their SIM after contacting T-Mobile’s support team.
Those affected by this latest breach of T-Mobile’s cyber defenses have already been notified with details on what data was accessed. T-Mobile hasn’t revealed just how many customers were affected in this latest breach but it says that there is ‘no indication that TMO username/password combinations or stored payment methods were accessed or acquired.’
T-Mobile hasn’t released details on how the breach may have occurred but you would have hoped that the carrier might have stepped up its online security efforts after the massive data hack back in August. Sadly, it appears that there is still much work to be done in that department.
