Remember back in September when Microsoft promised that the original Surface Duo would receive the Android 11 update before the end of 2021? Well, it’s looking as if that particular deadline isn’t going to be met which means that the first Surface Duo is still languishing on Android 10.
According to Windows Central, though, there may be some good news on the horizon in that the Android 11 update was simply delayed due to the holiday season getting in the way of Google verifying the firmware as fit for general release. It is now believed that Microsoft will roll out the Android 11 firmware sometime during January 2022, which really isn’t too much longer to wait.
Despite having committed to providing three years of updates for the Surface Duo, with Microsoft taking so very long to bring Android 11 to the device there must be some doubt as to how long it will be before Android 12 is eventually made available. There’s always the chance that the Android 12 update could be construed as the last OS update if Microsoft drags its heels again.
