Samsung just revealed its 2022 roundup of C-Lab incubator projects ahead of the upcoming CES event. And hands down, the most interesting of the bunch is a smart guitar and app duo ZamStar, which is designed to make it easier to learn guitar and jam with other players.

ZamStar is, as Samsung describes it, an “all integrated smart guitar and online jamming platform not only for skilled musicians but also beginners.” It allows you to play a song on the guitar—dubbed ZamString—then add effects and otherwise glam it up via the companion mobile app. From there, users can then sync their videos with those uploaded by other musicians using ZamStar. It’s similar to duet and collaboration videos on TikTok.

The guitar itself features LED lights in the frets to show beginners where to place their fingers for each song they play. It’s similar to how Roland’s LUMI Keys keyboard and other smart learning guitars work. Through practice, novice guitarists can get a better feel for how chords and melodies function in a song. They’ll also gain experience as they play a variety of songs, and possibly even progress to a point where they won’t need to rely on the LEDs anymore.

The truly exciting part of the clever gadget, however, is the ZamStar app and its capabilities. There are so many ways to mix and match effects for your music video snippets, you’d stay entertained for weeks.

Samsung has yet to reveal more data about the nifty musical education tool, as it’s still an incubator project, but we will provide an update if and when the ZamStar system becomes available for purchase.
