The first real Patch Tuesday of 2022 has arrived, and all ye Windows fans rejoice! For it is time to experience the security-patch-laden snowfall of January. That’s about all the latest Windows 11 and 10 updates have in store, beyond a few tiny extra items.

Over on Windows 11’s KB5009566 update bulletin, there are two highlights: Security updates as well as a fix for an issue beleaguering Japanese Input Method Editors. This month’s notes are as follows:

    • Updates a known issue that affects Japanese Input Method Editors (IME). Text you enter might appear out of order or the text cursor might move unexpectedly in apps that use the multibyte character set (MBCS).
    • Updates security for your Windows operating system.

And we can’t forget the 22000.345 servicing stack update.

    • This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

As for the Windows 10 KB5009585 update bulletin, the story is much the same. The only highlight listed pertains to security updates, though there is one other bauble tacked onto the monthly announcement: “This update contains miscellaneous security improvements to internal OS functionality. No additional issues were documented for this release.”

That’s all there is. If you were expecting anything particularly spicy, you can safely recalibrate expectations. Security and servicing stack updates are the name of the game this time around, as well as the vaguely worded “miscellaneous” improvements to Windows 10.
