Is taking salary in bitcoin becoming a new trend?


    Christophe De Beukelaer, a Belgian member of parliament, recently announced on his blog post that he would receive his 2022 salary in bitcoin. Thus, making him the first European politician to do so. Beukelaer earns nearly 5,500 euros per month, which he would now draw in bitcoin.

    Beukelaer said that he would be the first in Europe to take salary in bitcoin. He also said it isn’t too late for Brussels and Belgium to lead the cryptocurrency industry. Belgium already has some great companies in the field but needs to position themselves clearly and create a real ecosystem.

    Recently, many politicians and celebs announced their plan to take salaries in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Let’s look at some famous names that draw salaries in bitcoins.

    Eric Adams

    Last year, in November, the new mayor of New York, Eric Adams, announced that he would take his first three months’ salary in bitcoin to make New York the Center of bitcoin. Adams decided to take the first three paycheques in bitcoin after his Twitter exchange with Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, who said that he would receive his coming salary in bitcoin.

    Aaron Rodgers

    Aaron Rodgers, an American football quarterback, also announced that he would be taking a portion of his salary in bitcoin. He believes bitcoins have a bright future. Rodgers has collaborated with the Cash App for this initiative.

    Francis Suarez

    In November, Francis Suarez, the mayor of Miami, said that he would also accept his salary, which is almost US$97,000, in bitcoin. Suarez also said that he could visualize the possibility of building a tech hub in Miami. He said that he thought it would send a message to the world that their government is one of the most innovative governments globally.
