You’ll soon be able to watch Disney+ with ads for a lower monthly fee in the US

Remember before cord-cutting became a thing where you’d wait for an ad-break to come along before heading off to make a drink or fetch a snack? Well, Disney+ is bringing those golden years back later in 2022 with its ad-supported tier that will launch in the US later this year.

Disney hasn’t revealed just how much cheaper the new ad-supported tier will be when it launches later this year in the US but you would think that the company might discount the cost of the ad-free tier ($8) by a couple of dollars. Disney is playing its cards close to its chest and hasn’t revealed when exactly the ad-supported tier will be available, though as mentioned, it is coming to the US sometime this year before expanding to other regions in 2023.

“Expanding access to Disney+ to a broader audience at a lower price point is a win for everyone – consumers, advertisers, and our storytellers,” said Kareem Daniel, Chairman, Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution. “More consumers will be able to access our amazing content. Advertisers will be able to reach a wider audience, and our storytellers will be able to share their incredible work with more fans and families.”

Having been successful with its ad-free tier, Disney views the addition of the ad-supported plan as its next step in achieving its long-term target of having 230-260 million Disney+ subscribers by the end of 2024.

If you already subscribe to the ad-free tier of Disney+, would the addition of an ad-free plan tempt you into downgrading if the price was right? Let us know in the comments below.
