Earlier reports that the BMW i4 would ship without Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, with the smartphone-mirroring systems set to be installed via over-the-air updates at a later time, appear to be incorrect.
A user of one of our parent company’s forums reached out to BMW directly after a dealer friend of his said that the reporting was incorrect.
“Yes that information is incorrect for the US. All cars for the US will have software for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.” – Alex Schmuck, BMW Public Relations, told the user.
So there you have it — the i4 will be capable of mirroring your smartphone from jump.
It all started with a report from Automotive News Europe saying that BMW was switching to a new chip supplier and the hardware was ready but the software was not. And so owners would have to wait a bit for an OTA update.
Apparently, that won’t be the case in the U.S.
