The Chicago White Sox will be on the big stage this weekend during a three-game series against the Houston Astros. Two games will air on national TV: tonight on Apple TV+’s Friday Night Baseball and Sunday on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball.
While Apple TV+ games are new to MLB this year, the Sox have already gotten the streaming service’s Friday Night Baseball treatment twice. The video quality and production value have been solid, but let’s be real. Apple’s broadcast crew of Melanie Newman, Chris Young, and Brooke Fletcher ain’t it.
I realized this quickly during the White Sox vs. Rays game on April 15 and called an audible that made my experience much more enjoyable. As an upstanding South Sider, I consider it my duty to share these tips with fellow Sox fans in order to provide the best possible experience for Friday Night Baseball on Apple TV+.
What You Need To Do
I explained my methodology on the latest episode of Sox On Tap (depicted in the following video) but will list the steps below as well.
1.) Access the Apple TV+ broadcast on your primary device.
2.) Connect a second device to a speaker.
3.) Access the Chicago White Sox radio feed via MLB.TV on your second device.
4.) Listen to both broadcasts for a few moments to determine which feed is ahead of the other and the length of the delay.
5.) Pause and/or rewind whichever feed is ahead until the Sox radio audio matches up with the Apple TV+ video feed.
6.) Mute the Apple TV+ broadcast on your primary device.
7.) Sit back, relax, and strap it down as Len and DJ take it away.
If you execute the steps correctly, this is what you should be seeing and hearing.
