After it was confirmed that Nothing’s Phone (1) would, at least initially, only be available to buy via an invite system (boo!), today brings the opportunity to join a waitlist to stand-in-line (virtually) for an invite code to buy the Phone (1) when stock becomes available on July 12th. Cue the enthusiast cheers.
While you can sign up for the waitlist right now (unless you are in North America, that is), the Phone (1) only goes on sale on July 12th. And as Nothing mentioned in yesterday’s video, initial inventory levels will be limited.
When Nothing eventually sends you the invite you’ll be able to pre-order the Phone (1), although you’ll have to put down a non-refundable £20 deposit which gets taken off the cost of the handset when you log in to complete your order (and pay the balance) on July 12th. Just bear in mind that you are putting down a non-refundable deposit on a phone whose full price is unknown and whose specifications are yet to be revealed in their entirety.
Nothing is sweetening the deal for those signing up to the waitlist by giving users £20 (or local equivalent) credit that can be used towards a Phone (1) accessory or perhaps the Ear (1) earbuds.
As you might expect, you can move up the waitlist by having others use your referral link to sign up for there invite, much like the early OnePlus users did. At the time of writing there were some 41,000 sign-ups for the waitlist.
With the news that the Phone (1) could be powered by the Snapdragon 778G+ chipset and the implementation of the much-hated invite system from the early OnePlus days, are you still excited by Nothing’s debut smartphone which is believed to cost around the $400 threshold?
