During a virtual news conference today, Arm announced its new flagship Armv9 Cortex processors and Mali graphic processing units which will feature in the next-generation of high-performance smartphones. The new processors are called the Armv9 Cortex-X3 (also known as the Super-core), the Cortex-A715, and the power efficient Cortex-A510, while the new GPUs are called the Arm Immortalis-G715, Mali-G715m, and Mali-G615, We’ve got the rundown of ARM’s new silicon in a nutshell for you after the break.
Arm’s 2022 Total Compute Solution (TCS22) aims to offer up to 28% more performance with a 16% power reduction across workloads and gaming segments.
“Congratulations to Arm on the launch of the new Immortalis GPU, featuring hardware-based Ray Tracing. Combined with the new powerful Cortex-X3 CPU, we look forward to the next-level of mobile gaming and productivity for our Flagship & Premium mobile SOCs.” Dr. JC Hsu, Corporate VP and GM, Wireless Communications Business Unit, MediaTek”
Processors
The new Cortex-X3 core packs in a 25% improvement in single-threaded performance over the latest Android flagship and a 34% improvement on the latest mainstream laptops.
The Cortex-G715, on the other hand, focuses on power efficiency and achieves a 20% energy saving in tandem with a 5% performance boost over the Cortex-A710, and actually matches the performance of the Cortex-X1 core. The Cortex-G715 CPU uses a ‘Big.LITTLE’ configuration.
Arm’s refreshed Cortex-G510 is the company’s first high-effiency ‘LITTLE’ core in four years, and brings a 5% power efficiency over its predecessor. The updated DSU-110 also supports 50% more cores in CPU clusters in comparison to last year’s generation.
Graphic Processing Units
The Immortalis-G715 is the first Arm GPU to offer hardware-based ray tracing support on mobile with more realistic and immersive gaming experiences. The premium Mali-G715 includes Variable Rate Shading which aims to produce significant energy savings and a performance boost. The Mali-G615 on the other hand, aims to bring premium capabilities and features to a more developers and consumers.
These latest Mali GPUs offer a 15% performance boost over the previous generation and show that the chip designer is focused on bringing AAA gaming experiences to both flagship and premium smartphones.
