LEVANT — Levant has got some barrel racers, competitors came out and strutted their stuff with their beloved horse and left with some cold hard cash.
Hailey Ronco and Midori Emerson have been barrel racing for 10 years. Ronco rode one of her grandmother’s horses in Sunday’s event and says, unfortunately, the day wasn’t a win for her.
Ronco encourages those who would like to try the sport to go for it.
“It’s good to start out with normal horseback riding, and once you get the hang of that, you just start out slow,” says Ronco.
Ronco and Emerson headed to Levant at Apple Hill Stables for their competition.
The owner of Apple Hill Stables says they hold several events for English and Western riders as well as their annual rodeo which is coming this September.
Emerson took home $300 dollars during her last barrel race competition and says she hopes to win at Sunday’s event.
“Her name is Turbo, I’ve had her for six or seven years. She is a rescue horse who I trained myself on barrels and she didn’t know much when I first started riding her,” says Emerson.
Emerson’s mother says the real fun happens at state fairs and believes Emerson has a great chance at winning many of those races to come.
