These new Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro earbuds are recommended by 20 Grammy-winning audio producers. But do they live up to the hype?
There’s a lot of hype around for the new Liberty 3 Pro earbuds.
Described as “awesome-sounding” and “among the best wireless earbuds”, when Anker Innovation’s Soundcore offered to send me out a pair of True Wireless earbuds to review, I was intrigued.
Big tech packed into a small space
Good things come in small packages. That certainly rings true for this latest offering.
The older models – Liberty 2 Pro and Air 2 Pro were already highly regarded, but the Liberty 3 Pro earbuds take it up another notch.
One of the main improvements of the Liberty 3 Pro is it has 10.6mm coaxial dual driver technology and personalised active noise-cancelling.
You can listen for up to eight hours on a single charge and up to 32 hours with the case.
The buds will fast-charge in just 15 minutes for three hours of listening time, with both USB-C cable and wireless charging available.
Six microphones support calls with AI-uplink for noise reduction and there is multipoint connection available (enabling you to connect to multiple devices simultaneously).
There’s also 3D surround sound and IPX4 waterproofing – protecting the buds from splashing.
Included in the box are a heap of different types of liquid silicone ear tips, allowing the buds to fit almost any sized ear canal.
The design is also very attractive. The earbuds come in four colours – fog grey, midnight black, frost white and dusk purple.
Sound to suit your ears
Another cool feature of the Liberty 3 Pro is how the earbuds are customised.
Soundcore says that, using the HearID Sound technology, the earbuds analyse the way you hear music and create a profile specifically for your ears. You can also apply HearID Sound to your EQ settings for even more customisation. And to hear the sound in “3D”, Soundcore uses surround sound algorithm to processes audio data in real-time to optimise the audio elements.
My take on the Liberty 3 Pro 3
I incorporated the Liberty 3 Pro earbuds into a standard listening routine – Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History on the morning train to work, the latest League of Legends LCK match-up on Twitch on the way home and 3Blue1Brown on YouTube before bed.
The distinctive voice of Dan Carlin was even more delightful than normal using the Liberty 3 Pro. There was an enormous difference with the cheap wired headphones I’d previously been using.
The high pitch of LCK caster Brendan “Valdes” Valdes was in vivid clarity as I listened to T1 destroy Fredit BRION in the domestic Korean LOL competition.
For those in the know, the dulcet tones of Grant Sanderson from maths YouTube channel 3Blue1Brown are always a joy to listen to. But the Liberty 3 Pro gave his timbre an added quality.
The noise-cancelling was particularly useful one morning when a fellow passenger on the train snored at what was, quite frankly, a socially unacceptable level of noise.
The earbuds have an advantage over some over-ear headphones, that I have found sometimes make me concentrate on the loudness of every breath and step I take.
Soundcore says it has air pressure relief built-in to allow air to flow freely in and out of the front chamber to reduce in-ear pressure and I think that helped a lot.
These earbuds take listening on the move to the next level – the tech development in this field is getting out of control.
The hype is definitely well-deserved.
The Liberty 3 Pro earbuds are a definite buy from me.
