Best Apple Butter Recipe – How to Make Apple Butter

Apple butter is extremely easy to make and it’s how we transition from avocado toast in the summer to a more fall themed toast (wow, imagine it on sourdough toast). Apple butter also goes great on apple pancakes and is amazing atop warm buttermilk biscuits. If you’re looking to make your charcuterie board a little more serve apple butter with crostini and sharp cheddar cheese. You could also make brie and apple butter bites.

What’s the difference between apple butter and applesauce?

Both apple butter and applesauce start with cooking apples down on the stove. Apple butter is cooked longer for a stronger and more concentrated flavor and a thicker sauce. After cooking we blend it in food processor for a smoother consistency.

What kind of apples should I use?

All apples work well here! Because you’ll be cooking them down, the flavor will be drawn out and it’s okay to use softer apples here since you wan’t them to break down, unlike in an apple pie. Using a variety of apples will only make the flavor more complex and better!

How long will it keep for?

Store your apple butter in a jar with a tight fitting lid in the fridge for best results. It will last for about 3 to 4 weeks!

Ways to cook apple butter

Apple butter can be made a few different ways. You could make it in the oven overnight or using a slow cooker. The great thing about that is you don’t have to worry about standing over the stove and constantly stirring. Additionally if you want to replace the lemon with orange juice or granulated sugar with brown sugar or honey that’s optional to you.
