Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is out with the latest edition of his weekly Power On newsletter, this week reporting that Apple is supposedly working on three individual AR/VR headsets, with the first model expected to be called “Apple Reality Pro.”
Gurman says he is aware of at least three models currently being developed with the codenames “N301,” “N602,” and “N421,” with the first expected to be a high-end model targeted to rival Meta’s upcoming Quest Pro headset, with a lower-priced option launching after the “Apple Reality Pro” model launches, which is rumored to happen as soon as January 2023.
Last month, a fictitious company Apple created to try and disguise trademark filings recently applied for possible project names including ‘Reality One’, ‘Reality Pro’ and ‘Reality Processor’ which could all hint at the new wearable after Apple applied for the name ‘realityOS,’ the name the company will likely give the operating system that runs on the new headset earlier in the year.
The rumored new “Apple Reality Pro” device will reportedly feature two ultra-high-resolution 8K displays with a “bevy” of other features, including advanced eye-tracking technology and the ability to pass video of the real world through the visor and display it to the user, offering a “mixed-reality effect.” It will mark Apple’s first major new product launch since the original Apple Watch in October 2014.
