Apple will host the Far Out event on Sept. 7. Users will see the new iPhone 14 series at the event, but will there be a new Apple Watch SE too?
In a couple of days, the Cupertino-based tech giant Apple will host one of its largest annual launch events, and as per a new piece of information, the Apple Watch SE 2 will be a part of it. Apple names all its events distinctly, and the one on Sept. 7, 2022, is titled ‘Far Out.’
If Apple launches a new Watch SE at the Far Out event, enthusiasts and potential customers will look for the features the company has packed in and the wearable’s price. For example, the current Apple Watch SE does not have features like blood oxygen monitoring and the ability to take an ECG, whereas the Apple Watch Series 7 does.
At the Far Out event, Apple may reveal three new Apple Watches, including the regular Watch Series 8, a new rugged model called the Apple Watch Pro and the successor to the affordable wearable released in 2020, Apple Watch SE 2. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shared information about the products he expects to see at the Far Out September event. While Gurman mentions quite a lot of details about the models in the iPhone lineup, he corroborates the reports about Apple releasing a new Apple Watch SE at the upcoming event.
What Should Users Expect From The New Apple Watch SE?
In his newsletter, Gurman mentions that the new Apple Watch SE, or the Apple Watch SE 2, will look like the original Apple Watch SE. Gurman could be talking about the overall design of the Apple Watch SE with relatively bigger bezels. However, under the hood, Watch SE 2 could feature the new chipset that will also power the Watch Series 8 and Watch Pro models, i.e., the S8 SoC. In retrospect, the S8 SoC is understood to offer the same performance and battery life as the S7 SoC on the Apple Watch Series 7. Currently, the Apple Watch SE available on the market comes with an S5 chipset which came out with Apple Watch Series 5 in 2019. However, that is the extent of details that the journalist shared.
In May, another report claimed that the upcoming Apple Watch SE would look like the 2020 edition. Additionally, the report mentioned that the device could come with two missing features — ECG tracking and always-on display. However, with the new features, the Apple Watch SE 2’s price could jump to $299, which is $20 more than the current retail price of the Apple Watch SE. In a related development, Apple is also planning to add satellite connectivity to the ‘Pro’ models in the future. Unfortunately, the Apple Watch Pro coming out this year won’t have this functionality.
