Sep 26, 2022 — Apple growers across much of New York are reporting a good apple harvest this year as several varieties have been picked. Joel Howie, owner of Canton Apple and Cider Company, says he’s “very pleased” with the harvest so far. He’s raised apple and other fruit trees on 14 acres in the Canton area for about ten years.
Howie says two years ago, he had a bumper crop of apples. So far this fall, he and his crew have picked about 450 bushels of apples that will be used for eating, baking and cider. He told Todd Moe that a mild early spring made a difference this year.
The New York Apple Association says state is the nation’s second-largest producer with more than 600 orchards from the Champlain Valley to Niagara Falls.
