iphone 15: Apple changes course? iPhone 15 may not support TouchID, October event likely delayed

Apple stunned the world in its ‘Far Out’ event when it unveiled its premium iPhone 14 series. The devices introduced some of the latest innovations by the Cupertino-based tech giant. Now, all eyes are on the next-generation of smartphones – the iPhone 15 series which is slated for a 2023 launch.

Several leaks and rumours have already begun doing the rounds on the Internet about the expected features on the devices. Now, according to a latest report, Apple may do away with the touch ID feature on its forthcoming iPhone 15 devices.

Noted tech journalist, Mark Gurman in his newsletter ‘Power On’ revealed the development. According to Gurman, iPhone 15 will not get the TouchID. He went on to say that Apple may not feature the technology on any high-end iPhones anytime soon.

Apple has tested TouchID on its previous smartphones, however, this time the company has decided not to bring the biometric sensor to its top-of-the-line devices. The tech giant had introduced it for the first time on iPhone 5 and later it was featured on iPads, MacBooks, and even iMac keyboards.

“Over the past few years, there have been discussions within Apple about bringing Touch ID back to high-end iPhones. The company has tested in-screen Touch ID and even contemplated putting it on the power button. At this point, I believe Face ID is here to stay and Touch ID won’t be returning to flagship iPhones—at least anytime in the foreseeable future,” Gurman wrote in his newsletter.

However, the tech expert has also suggested that Apple may move the Touch ID to the power button on lower-end iPhones such as the iPhone Se. This could be similar to the Face ID and Touch ID spotted on the iPads, however, Gurman said that he has not got any confirmation on any such development. Gurman has also stated that Apple is unlikely to hold its event this month. The tech giant was expected to launch iPad Pro, Mac, Apple TV models in its highly-anticipated October event.
