It’s an overdue update, but we aren’t complaining.
Following the recently-announced Google Home redesign, Nest Cam and Doorbell customers are gaining a new way to view their camera feeds. Google’s upgraded web viewer allows you to stream every Nest camera’s video feed from your browser—just log into the Google Home website and give it a go!
Previously, Google’s web viewer only worked with older Nest products. New Nest cameras and doorbells, specifically those made in 2021 and 2022, did not offer a web view (much to the chagrin of customers). This update resolves the problem.
Here are all of the Nest products that offer a web view, including older cameras:
- Nest Cam (battery) and Nest Cam (wired)
- Nest Cam with floodlight (wired)
- Nest Doorbell (battery), Nest Doorbell (wired), and Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen)
- Nest Cam Indoor and Nest Cam Outdoor
- Nest Cam IQ Indoor and Nest Cam IQ Outdoor
Additionally, Google Home users may now have the option to build Household Routines. It’s more complicated than it sounds; with Household Routines, you can use smart devices to trigger home automation. If your smart doorbell is pressed, for example, your porch light may grow brighter.
Nest Cam and Doorbell owners should see the option to view a live camera feed at the Google Home website. If your account doesn’t offer this feature, wait a week. Google says that the rollout may be a bit slow.
Google Nest Doorbell (Battery)
The Nest Doorbell (Battery) installs without wires and notifies you when movement is detected outside your door. It can save short recordings of events, or continuously record video with a Nest Aware subscription.
