Apple (NASDAQ:) has slowed down hiring, CEO Tim Cook confirmed to CBS in an interview.
Earlier this month, Bloomberg News reported that Apple paused hiring new talent in areas outside of research and development (R&D). The decision was reportedly made in October and it affected some corporate roles, the report added.
Apple then confirmed that it is still hiring “but given the current economic environment we’re taking a very deliberate approach in some parts of the business.”
“We want to be thoughtful and make smart decisions that enable us to continue fueling innovation for the long term,” Apple said.
Tim Cook confirmed to CBS that the company is taking a “very deliberate” approach to who it hires given the economic slowdown.
“Not everywhere in the company are we hiring,” Cook said in an interview.
Last week, Apple released a press release to note that COVID-19 restrictions in China have temporarily impacted the primary iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max assembly facility. As a result, the waiting times are longer and the company expects “lower iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max shipments than we previously anticipated.”
Apple shares are down about 0.5% at the New York open.
