Windows 11 KB5025239 can now be downloaded on PCs running version 22H2. It is now heading to PCs via Windows Update, with many minor tweaks. Microsoft says update can be downloaded from Settings, but you can also use Update Catalog. The company has posted direct download links for Windows 11 KB5025239 to its portal.

Windows 11 KB5025239 is a mandatory Microsoft Patch Tuesday security update for all devices on version 22H2. This update isn’t as big as the previous updates, which added new features to Task Manager, Start menu, desktop, Settings, taskbar and other areas of the OS. Still, it comes with plenty of quality improvements.

Build 22621.1555 for Windows 11 has a couple of noteworthy changes. For example, the search bar on the taskbar now handles light mode better. The search bar will be lighter when Windows configures custom colour mode. In other words, when the system theme is dark, the app mode is set to light in Settings > Personalization > Colors.

April 2023 update for Windows 11 is also a bit controversial for the Start menu. As per the official release notes, Microsoft is introducing a new feature that brings adverts to the Start menu. The “notifications for Microsoft accounts” feature reminds users to back up their files.

The reminder isn’t the problem, but the notifications try to sell OneDrive subscriptions and encourage you to use a Microsoft account if you’re on a local account. The tech giant told us the feature is available to select users and will begin rolling out to more customers in the coming months.

According to our sources, Microsoft will let you turn off these ads in the Start menu in a future update.

Those on 21H2, the original version of Windows 11, will be getting a different cumulative update instead. The update is titled “2023-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5025239)”, and features highlighted in this article are exclusive to this only.

(On Windows 10, Microsoft has published KB5025221 with different bug fixes).

Additionally, the update fixes a problem with Clustered Shared Volumes (CSVs) failing to come online when enabling BitLocker and local CSV-managed protectors. This occurred when the system recently rotated the BitLocker keys.

Microsoft also addressed an issue that causes Active Directory Users & Computers to stop responding when using TaskPad view to enable or disable multiple objects simultaneously.

Moreover, the update fixes an issue that could cause a race condition between the DCOM and the Microsoft Remote Procedure Call RPC endpoint mapper in the rpcss.exe. It also resolves a problem where Microsoft PowerPoint stops responding on the Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) when using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).

The update also ensures that Windows Search works properly inside Windows container images.

Here’s the full changelog of the update:
