The renowned DJ and music producer, Paul Oakenfold, stands accused of sexual harassment by a former personal assistant, as revealed in a recent lawsuit.
The lawsuit, submitted to the LA Superior Court on Friday (June 2), was initiated by a former employee of the DJ, a woman going by the name Jane Roe, aged 24. Roe is seeking more than $25,000 (£20,000) in damages and alleges being the victim of harassment by the Grammy-nominated Oakenfold on multiple instances.
According to the suit, the complaint comprises five distinct claims, all reported to have occurred after she started working as his personal assistant in October 2022 for $20 per hour (£20).
Roe alleges that Oakenfold exposed himself and masturbated in her presence on four different occasions during her employment. She claims the first incident took place on her initial day on the job, and similar occurrences happened on four other dates. Once, she alleges, he committed the act four times in a single day in November of the previous year and, on a different day, inside her vehicle.
In the legal document, Roe also contends that New Frequency Management and Stepanek Management, both helmed by CEO Paul Stepanek, violated her employment rights. According to Roe, she was presented with a nondisclosure agreement when she reported the incidents to her superiors.
Roe refused to sign the agreement and alleges that this led to her being barred from returning to work and being threatened with job termination.
According to Beverly Hills firm Blackstone Law APC, Roe eventually acquiesced and signed the agreement “under duress”, and was not reassigned to work with Oakenfold when she returned. However, she claims that her working hours were subsequently decreased, and she was laid off in March citing “a lack of work”. The full details of the lawsuit can be found here (via Deadline).
Oakenfold, aged 59, has enjoyed a lengthy career as a record producer, remixer and trance DJ, providing remixes for a plethora of artists such as The Rolling Stones, Britney Spears, Madonna, Muse, and Michael Jackson.
