Welcome to the Global Water Annual Review for 2022-23. It has certainly been a watershed year in many respects. Never have the effects of climate change felt more pronounced and prevalent. Coupled with the global economic and geopolitical turmoil we’ve seen unfolding during the year, it’s been a hugely challenging environment in which to operate.
Despite these difficulties, there are signs of hope and promise emerging on the horizon. Global influence events including COP27, COP15 and UN Water Week have offered valuable opportunities for collective action, ensuring that water receives the critical recognition it deserves in addressing the pressing priorities of climate change, water security and public health. We must persist in these endeavours as we approach World Water Week and anticipate COP28 later this year.
Amidst these efforts, remarkable progress has been made in areas across the water cycle, particularly in areas such as wastewater-based epidemiology and water resilience in cities, highlighting our relentless pursuit of excellence as a central pillar of our sustainable future.
