If you consider the current state of Twitter (now called X) to be something of a cesspool then it’s likely that you’ve sought out Meta’s competing app call Threads in the hopes of finding a replacement. Perhaps launching a couple if weeks before it should have and thus being a little threadbare (not sorry) in the features department, Threads has gained a number of essential functions in the past few weeks and today brings news that one of its most requested additions is now a reality, at least for some users. That’s right, Meta has announced the Threads has gained a desktop version which is already available for some people.
Meta has chosen Threads.net as the designated desktop URL, and you can click for yourself to see if its available yet. If you are one of the chosen ones, you’ll be able to log in to the website and view, create, and like posts. If you are like me, however, you’ll just see a QR code linking to the iOS and Android apps.
With some of the buzz about Threads diminishing in recent weeks as users get frustrated about missing features, perhaps the partial unveiling of the desktop version will enough to placate them for a while. Meta has said that it plans to roll out further functions to the web version in the coming weeks, so we’ll keep an eye on that.
