LEGO Reveals Massive “Star Wars” Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 2D-animated “Star Wars: Clone Wars,” LEGO is launching a massive Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser set. It’s the latest entry in LEGO’s Ultimate Collectors Series, joining other massive “Star Wars” builds like the AT-AT and Star Destroyer. Notably, this is the first “Star Wars: Clone Wars” set ever developed by LEGO. It goes on sale October 4th for $650, though LEGO Insiders can place their orders on October 1st.

The Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser is massive, clocking in at 43 inches (109 cm) long and 21 inches (54 cm) wide. It contains 5,374 individual pieces, including Captain Rex and Admiral Yuralen minifigures. And, like most other LEGO display pieces, the Republic Attack Cruiser comes with a small commemorative plaque. Oddly, this set does not have any articulated pieces, though it stays true to life with a detailed design and plenty of non-functioning turrets.

As many “Star Wars” fans will tell you, the Republic Attack Cruiser made its debut in the prequel series (specifically the opening sequence of Episode III). But it’s often remembered for its appearances in the “Clone Wars” animated series, where it was used extensively. The Republic Attack Cruiser is mainly a ship of war, and it represents the Republic’s growth during the Clone Wars era. It’s a kind of precursor to the Super Star Destroyer, a similarly large ship.

We’re seeing a lot of renewed interest in “Star Wars: Clone Wars” and its 3D-animated followup, “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” This may be due to the new “Ahsoka” series on Disney+, which focuses on one of the most popular characters of the Clone Wars era. LEGO has announced some products to coincide with Disney’s “Ahsoka,” including the T-6 Jedi Shuttle. If you’re a fan of the old animated “Star Wars” cartoons, you should keep an eye out for new Clone Wars-inspired LEGO sets (and other merchandise).

To reiterate, the Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser set launches on October 4th and costs a whopping $650. If you’re a LEGO Insider, you can order the Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser on October 1st — three days early. The LEGO Insider program is free to join and helps you earn rewards on LEGO purchases.
